RISC and the NDIS

RISC is a Registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Provider. The NDIS commenced in Queensland on July 1st 2016 and will roll out  across the state until all areas are covered by July 2019. It may be available in your area already. 

NDIS provides a new way of funding individualised support, for people aged 0-65 years, who have a permanent and significant disability. 

Each person eligible to receive funding under the NDIS guidelines, will have an individual plan developed based on their needs now and their hopes, goals and aspirations for the future.

The list of services RISC are registered to provide under the NDIS are:

Core supports

  • Assistance with Self Care Activities
  • Assistance to access community, social and recreational activities
  • Assistance with Travel/ Transport

Capacity building supports

  • Individual Skills Development and Training
  • Individual Social Skills and Development

NDIS PRINCIPLES

  • The individual is at the core of its purpose
  • Optimises economic and social independence 
  • Delivers more choice and control 
  • Gives certainty to lifetime support

Reasonable and necessary supports

  • To increase independence, economic and social participation 
  • Relates to the person’s disability 
  • Does not include day-to-day living costs that are unrelated to a participant’s disability support needs 
  • Represents value for money 
  • Likely to be effective and beneficial to the participant

    ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

    1. Permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities 
    2. Under 65 years of age when you first access the NDIS 
    3. Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen who is a protected special category visa holder
    4. Individuals may go to MyAccess Checker at www.ndis.gov.au/my-access-checker to find out if they might be able to receive assistance from the scheme.
